The Pinellas Economics Expo encourages K-12 Pinellas County teachers to conceive, implement and document an innovative learning approach that develops, among students, a deeper understanding and appreciation of the free enterprise system and to recognize and showcase these projects. The Free Enterprise ExpoRecognizes teachers in Pinellas County Schools who are creatively integrating free enterprise and economic education into their classrooms. All PreK-12 educators in Pinellas County Schools are eligible to participate. What Are the Competition Categories?High School Student Enterprise ProjectStudents create a simulated business and develop a display or demonstration based on the free enterprise system. Demonstrations will receive monetary rewards. The competition will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 9 a.m. Winners will be announced at our Annual Economics Expo Award Ceremony on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Economics Quiz BowlTeams of students compete in an exciting academic team format to answer questions about personal finance and other real-world issues linked to the middle school curriculum standards. Contact the social studies office for more information. The Quiz Bowl will take place Thursday, March 13, 2008. Quiz Bowl finals will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2008. Teacher ProjectConsists of a folder, ring binder or captioned photo album containing a detailed, two-page synopsis outlining content and results of a lesson, unit or activity taught this year. The lesson or activity should be adequately documented by materials such as graphs, sample lesson materials, tests, photographs and letters. Videotapes, slide show presentations, CD-ROMS or web pages also may be included. Teachers may work individually or as a team. All materials will be judged according to the evaluation criteria listed below. Projects are due to the social studies office at the Administration Building by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008. Examples of projects are student-run businesses (real or simulated), games, simulation activities or teacher-directed student research projects about economic concepts. Your project may demonstrate creative ways of teaching real-world economics’ issues to your particular group of students. How Will The Projects Be Judged?Evaluation Criteria: What Do I Get?Prizes up to $200 will be awarded to teachers in different grade levels.
