In light of economics requirements for middle school students, students must become proficient in some economics fundamentals at an early age. In this workshop, teachers will be given resources to help students apply economics concepts and reasoning to real-world situations in a series of interactive units pertaining to economics and is appropriate for the middle grades.
The resource contains 19 lessons and is divided into units, each covering a role and relevant economics content, including supply and demand, opportunity cost, productive resources, Gross Domestic Product, and trade barriers. Students also keep journals and, in the final lesson, play a game designed as a review.
There will also be a talk on financial literacy by a guest speaker.
Teachers will receive a copy of Focus: Middle School Economics from the Council on Economic Education as well as a wide variety of resources from the Federal Reserve.

Playful Economics contains 15 economics lessons that were designed with elementary students in mind.

The lessons found in this curriculum can be used on their own or to supplement other materials. They are most successful when completed sequentially but may be used individually as well. Playful Economics also includes a pretest/post test with answers.
Teachers will also be given a copy of Teaching Economics Using Children’s Literature.

This resource shows how a collection of traditional children’s stories can give your classroom an instant economic boost at an early age and all while infusing more reading comprehension and language art skills into your everyday instruction.
With a step-by-step teaching approach explore your favorite past-time stories like “The Three Little Pigs” and uncover economic concepts within. With 24 ready-to-use lesson plans, this handy story telling guide includes:
• A brief overview of each story.
• A clear explanation of how the story’s plot intertwines with economics principles.
• Questions and follow up activities to keep your students on target.
• An annotated bibliography with additional children’s titles.

This resource will allow you to integrate basic economic concepts with a story a week. Your students will have solid economic knowledge before they leave elementary school. There is not a better way to teach economics than with stories and tales your students already know and love.
Later in the workshop, there will also be a talk on financial literacy by a guest speaker.

Teachers will receive a copy of Focus: Middle School Economics from the Council on Economic Education as well as a wide variety of resources from the Federal Reserve.
